Einstein's Annum Mirabilis Centennial
1905--2005
Broomfield Public Library
An afternoon of Hands-On Science, October 22, 2005.
As a conclusion to the Einstein Centennial Celebration in October of
2005, the Broomfield Public Library hosted a hands-on science day. We
discussed some basic ideas in physics like conservation of mass and
energy and had a good time launching projectiles from a miniature
catapult among other experiments. There was a magnetism lab,
demonstration of Brownian motion in a microscope, and in the back
kitchen we added spare electrons to some gold foil and knocked them
free again using ultraviolet light and a galvanized nail, a process
known as the
photoelectric
effect.
Verification that mass is
conserved...
Energy and massive projectiles.
Photoelectric effect, light as
waves, light as particles, light as energy.
Some creative, imaginative,
inquisitive humans.
